Context

Getty Images was commissioned by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) to document the lives of internally displaced people in Chad, a humanitarian crisis receiving little international attention.

Challenge

When a crisis disappears from the headlines, the people affected risk becoming invisible too. The challenge was to create imagery powerful enough to cut through an overcrowded global news cycle and bring attention back to communities largely absent from international coverage.

Approach

Getty Images commissioned The Good Picture's in-house photographer, Dominique Catton, to document the crisis through intimate, human-centred photography.
 
Rather than simply recording conditions, the focus was on emotion, dignity and individual experience, creating striking images that allow global audiences to connect with the people behind the statistics.
